A New Story Begins

Once upon a time… set along the banks of the Meuse River in the heart of Verdun stood a magnificent 19th-century building, majestically transformed into a 4-star hotel.

This is how the story of your stay in this exceptional place could begin—formerly the officers’ mess of Verdun, a character-filled residence built of brick and stone and topped with a Mansard roof.

Below is detailed information about the former Les Jardins du Mess site—what it once was, what it has become, and its present identity.

History & Origins

  • The building dates back to the 19th century and originally served as the Verdun officers’ mess, a social gathering place for military officers.

After many years of abandonment, a conversion project was launched. Renovation work lasted approximately nine months, and the restored establishment officially opened in May 2016.

The redevelopment project was led by local Verdun residents and investors committed to preserving the city’s architectural heritage.

What It Has Become — Hotel & Restaurant

  • Today, Les Jardins du Mess is a 4-star hotel and restaurant located at 22 Quai de la République, 55100 Verdun.

  • The architecture retains its original charm, with brick and stone façades and a Mansard-style roof, giving the property its distinctive character.
